Hi, Jasmine — website copywriter & marketer for service providers + coaches looking to book more dream clients via their website.

How to know if it’s time to invest in one-to-one copywriting

There are a lot of questions when it comes to investing in one-to-one copywriting services.
Should I work with an industry-specific copywriter? Should I DIY or outsource? And how do I know if I’m ready to invest in one-to-one copywriting? What signs, goals, and problems warrant hiring a professional copywriter to work their magic on my website?

I understand investing in a branding service (whether it’s a website designer, brand strategist, copywriter, etc) isn’t a quick decision. Money, time, and trust are all factors you need to consider. But, investing in a professional copywriter is essential to elevating your brand, attracting high-ticket clients, and standing out in a saturated industry.

And everyone wants a trailblazing brand that people can’t help but want to invest in, right?

It’s true. Whether you’re a wedding planner, florist, photographer, or website designer, you want to magnetise dream clients to your brand and services. But, investing in copywriting might not be the right investment for you now (shock-horror I’m telling you this, right?!)

Who shouldn’t invest in one-to-one professional copywriting services?

Here’s the thing: I NEVER want someone to invest in my (or another copywriter’s) services if I don’t think they’re at the stage in their business where a copywriting investment is the best thing.

If you’re a new business that’s prone to 360-ing your services.
Businesses investing in copywriting should have a proven service offer that needs elevating through conversion copy. If you hire a copywriter and change your identity and offerings, your copy will no longer work. The strategy and content of your copywriting won’t align with your new offerings.

If you haven’t invested in basic customer/client service tools
Your website is the first impression you give your clients, but the rest of the experience needs to align with this. If you’ve got a 10/10 website, but the onboarding is shoddy and haphazard, you’ll have some unhappy clients. Map your entire customer service and use tools such as Dubsado and Honeybook to deliver this.

You don’t know how to increase awareness and drive traffic to your website
Your website copywriter isn’t solely responsible for increasing traffic and conversion on your website— we’re part of a much larger puzzle. Having a high-converting copywriter and being the best wedding business in the city isn’t going to do anything if potential clients aren’t landing on your website.

You need to be confident using Pinterest, blogging, and other social media platforms to ensure your copy gets the exposure it (and you) need. Or you need to outsource these tasks.

When it’s time to invest in one-to-one

copywriting services

If the above 3 points don’t relate to you, it might be time to consider working with a website copywriter to elevate and establish your business.

You’re overloaded with admin

An often overlooked benefit to a strategic website is the reduction in admin it provides. Working with a copywriter means creating a website that automatically qualifies your leads and answers questions before people reach out. You can present yourself exactly as you intend to be seen and only speak to the types of people you want to attract.

You’re trying to convey high-ticket value

Proving a high-ticket service demands a top-level experience from the start (the start being your website). People will view the quality of your website as a reflection of your services. You need to ensure your website is top-quality and polished to perfection if you want people to view your services in the same way.

You need a website backed by strategy

Alongside presenting yourself as high-end, you need words that convey the value of your services. Unfortunately, selling luxury wedding packages or website designs isn’t as easy as putting pen to paper. Conveying high-ticket value demands a deep understanding of buyer behaviours, your place in the market, and your brand identity. Such a profound understanding and ability come from years of experience, education, and observation (which most business owners don’t have).

If you don’t understand and can implement the strategy to sell high-ticket online, through your words, you need the help of a professional copywriter.

You’re investing in brand & web design

Nothing breaks this website copywriter’s heart like seeing a stunning custom website design with poor copy. Now, I’m not saying you can’t DIY your copy (you totally can!). But you need to ensure your copy isn’t a second thought and gets as much attention as the website design.

Why?

Think of it this way: your copy sells. Your design attracts. You’re reeling people in with a beautiful website, only for your words to fall short. Ultimately, investing in design without copy means wasting your investment.

However, you can DIY your copy. As long as you’ve invested in the education resources to guarantee your copy is high-quality and conversion-friendly.

Investing in one-to-one copywriting (or a killer do-it-yourself course) is something every business will need to do at some point. But that doesn’t mean your time is now. Make sure the foundation of your business is in place first. Once you’re confident in your offer and experience, and you’re ready for a website that works for you (selling, serving, connecting with your ideal client), it’s time to invest in one-to-one copywriting services.
